Eyes reveal more than a thousand words. However, with advancing age, the delicate and sensitive tissue around the eyes loses elasticity and tension. This leads to bulging or puffy eye bags and drooping eyelids which can at times be a cause of visual impairment. By removing excess skin, fatty deposits and lax tissue, eyelid correction surgery can revive and rejuvenate your looks again. In some cases an upper lid correction can be performed in combination with a forehead/brow lift to achieve the desired outcome required.

UPPER EYELID CORRECTION

Drooping or sagging eyelids are signs of the natural ageing process and can be corrected by upper eyelid lift surgery. A semi-circular incision is made following the natural upper eyelid crease. The excess skin and if necessary fatty deposits and lax muscle tissue are removed.

LOWER EYELID CORRECTION

Amongst the undesirable signs of maturing are eye bags. When they are caused solely by bulging, fatty deposits without excess skin, all that is needed is an incision made at the inner part of the lower eyelid to tighten or remove these fatty deposits. However, in the event that the surgeon needs to remove excess skin and muscle tissue, the incision is made directly beneath the eyelashes at the edge of the eyelid. A fine, thin line following the natural eyelid crease is all that will remain.

BEFORE AND AFTER THE PROCEDURE

Prior to surgery, a thorough eye examination by an ophthalmologist is mandatory. In order to test whether the patient can close his/her eyes, the procedure is carried out under sedation rather than general anaesthesia. In most cases, the patient is able to return home after the procedure.

Final results are best visible after approximately three months. Immediately after the operation, the eyes should be covered with moist compresses or cold packs for one to two days. Sutures will be removed after five to six days. After ten to twelve days, the patient can usually resume social activities. Two to three weeks after the operation, the patient can start to engage in sporting activities again.

RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS

Eyelid Correction Surgery is one of the most frequently performed procedures in aesthetic surgery. When performed by an experienced surgeon, complications are rare.
